Laughing in Atlantic City
Laugh till it Hurts in Atlantic City
Atlantic City is a great vacation spot with an unlimited number of activities to undertake. You could gamble all day and night, you could sit around your hotel and lounge, you could visit amusement parks, or simply see the sights on the boardwalk. The shopping opportunities are simply phenomenal, and you will find no lack of entertainment. At some point during your stay in Atlantic City, you’re simply going to want to unwind, and perhaps visit one of the many shows being offered in the area. As a matter of fact, many visitors to Atlantic City are into comedy shows, and there is nothing quite like sitting down at a comedy club after a busy day of shopping, eating, or even parasailing. There are two major comedy clubs in Atlantic City, each of which provide their very own atmosphere and of course their own charm. There is always a great debate among tourists and residents alike over which club is the best, but as always, it is up to the individual to decide. Let’s take a quick look at both options, and you can decide which you like, though you may, as many people do, find that you simply want to visit both of them!
Stopping at the Trop for Some Laughs
If you’re looking for a night of fun and laughter that you will absolutely never forget, then you couldn’t possibly go wrong with the Comedy Stop at the Tropicana hotel. Run by Bob Kephart, it has been open since 1983. Every night at 9 PM there are three headline comedians, and new acts every single week. If you need something more however, you will find a fantastic Comedy Magic Show every night at 6 PM.
If you are on a tight budget, you might be worrying about the cost, but there is no need to fear – you’re not in Las Vegas. The Comedy Stop has plenty of options even for the most thrifty of travelers who wish to rest their gaze upon the $3 million dollar state of the art theater that has attracted comedians and artists from all over the planet. In fact, more than one thousand highly talented individuals have passed across the stage since the 2004 renovation.
During the renovation, a number of new features were added to the theater, allowing for a more immersive experience than ever before. The theater itself is the real attraction. It might not be the Broadway Theater, but it certainly mimics the style and provides more than 2000 seats for your convenience. The venue now features a number of new flat screen plasma televisions along with additional seating and even a kitchen that’s equipped to cook and serve only the finest food to their guests. On the subject of food, this newly re-opened venue features a revamped food menu with plenty of dining options ever day of the week. If you wish to stop by Café Cuisine, you will find a continental menu along with latte and espresso to give you that boost of energy you need during the day and perhaps right before the big show. Of course, what menu would be complete without a good beer and wine section? The Liberal temptations section lists beer, wine various spirits, and of course, frozen specialties like pina coladas, cocotinis, and various high end vodkas.
If you visit the Tropicana and love the Comedy Stop experience, you might want to return a few times throughout the year. Therefore, you can sign up for their “Frequent Laughter Club” which provides you with special privileges throughout the year. You can take a look at the website here: http://www.comedystop.com/frequent-laughs-club.cfm and sign up for the club card which features:
- Special VIP Seating

- Complimentary Show During Your Birthday Month
- Much, Much More
It’s the experience of a lifetime, and one that you will most certainly never forget. This might not be the only comedy club in Atlantic City, but it is certainly one of the best, and with shows at just $20 per seat, you can expect the best at the lowest possible price. Compared to other activities in Atlantic City, that is quite the steal!

Laugh till You Cry at the Borgata Music Box Theater
The Music Box theater in the Borgata is nowhere near the size of the Tropicana’s at just 1000 seats, but that does not serve to diminish the amazing shows, entertainment, and laughter that permeate the memories of these hallowed halls. Every single night some of the biggest names in comedy take the stage, entertaining the audience as they take up temporary residence in the movie theater style seating.
The venue features state of the art sound and lighting equipment to enhance the experience you have at the Borgata. There are many comedy clubs that feature a low ceiling and dim lights, but this an actual theater with stadium seating. It is a thousand dollar experience available to you for mere pocket change!
The biggest difference between the Borgata and the Trop is the dining. Rather than being served directly inside the theater, you will need to choose your refreshments from a concession stand before you actually enter. Drinks have been said to start at roughly $5 and the price of food varies. This might not be what most would consider a ‘comedy club’, but it is still an amazing experience nonetheless. The Borgata is where you will come if you want more of a movie theater experience. With ticket entries only costing around $20 and food optional, the Borgata is an outstanding place to come if you just want to sit down and laugh.
On the subject of price, you can purchase a 3 year ticket package which will grant you access to the nightly festivities for the next 36 months at just $199 for one person and $299 for two people. If you want to laugh in Atlantic City, you certainly cannot ignore the Borgata. You can read more about the Borgata Comedy Club and order tickets here: http://www.theborgata.com/shows/events/comedy-club.
